MARVEL MARATHON

MARVEL MARATHON WATCH GUIDE

MCU
TIMELINE.

Follow the MCU timeline from Steve Rogers in the 1940s through the Blip, the Multiverse Saga and the MCU’s latest confirmed story years.

TIMELINE LOGIC

HOW THE MCU CHRONOLOGY WORKS

This order uses each title’s principal story year. It starts with Captain America: The First Avenger, then follows the main MCU timeline rather than the date each production was released.

Some stories resist a single position. Loki operates outside ordinary time, flashbacks can span decades, and time travel creates branches. Television seasons also cover more than one date. To keep the list practical, every season stays intact and appears where its main story belongs.

Marvel’s published timeline and the ordering used by Disney+ provide the foundation. Newer films and series are placed only when their story context is clear. If you are watching for the first time, the MCU release-order guide avoids revealing later ideas too early.

MCU CHRONOLOGY QUESTIONS

Is chronological order best for a first MCU watch?

Usually not. Release order introduces the world and its surprises as intended. Chronological order is especially useful for a rewatch or for tracing cause and effect across the timeline.

Why is Captain America: The First Avenger first?

Most of its main story takes place during the Second World War, well before the modern events of Iron Man. Its present-day framing does not change its principal position.

Where does Loki belong if it happens outside time?

The first season follows the events of Avengers: Endgame, so it sits after that film even though the Time Variance Authority exists outside the ordinary timeline.

Why are seasons kept together?

Splitting individual episodes around films would make the order difficult to follow and maintain. Each live-action season is treated as a single story at its principal point in time.

Are unreleased MCU titles included?

Only when a principal story year is known well enough to place them. A confirmed release date alone does not establish chronological position.

EDITORIAL NOTES

SOURCES AND UPDATES

Chronology is checked against Marvel’s official timeline material and current first-party catalogues. Ambiguous stories use their principal setting and are labelled as approximate.
