HOW THE THIRD SEASON REACHED NETFLIX

Netflix ordered a third season on 12 April 2018, a month after the second season’s release, with Scott Reynolds joining Melissa Rosenberg as co-showrunner. Filming began by the end of June 2018, and all 13 episodes arrived together on 14 June 2019.

Netflix announced on 18 February 2019 that “the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” thanking Rosenberg and Krysten Ritter for three seasons.

THREE SEASONS AS ONE STORY

WHAT THE SEASON IS ABOUT

In the season, Jessica teams up with Trish Walker to take down a highly intelligent psychopath, Gregory Sallinger, before a devastating loss sets the two against each other. Rosenberg said on 3 June 2019 that “season three is an active evolution out of one and two,” and that the season “is about her now moving forward and finding her place in the world.” She described the run as one story:

“I really encourage people to really see this as a 39-hour movie.”

A SPLIT RESPONSE

WHAT THE SCORES SHOW

Rotten Tomatoes lists a 73% critics’ score from 40 reviews and a 75% audience score. Metacritic gives the season 65 from seven critics. The season earned two Saturn Award nominations, for Ritter and for the series as a streaming superhero series.

THE REWATCH

A SERIES THAT ENDED ON SCHEDULE

The season came out four months after the cancellation, which Rosenberg called “clearly a business decision.” The series left Netflix in March 2022 when its licence ended and moved to Disney+.

In the Marvel Marathon it is catalogued as Marvel Television and sits in the Marvel TV shows in order guide between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 and Legion Season 3, and in the MCU timeline guide between The Punisher Season 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp. It is not in the MCU release-order, series or movie guides.
