THE SECOND HALF OF A LONGER PLAN

HOW SEASON 2 WAS MADE

Daredevil: Born Again was announced in July 2022 with 18 episodes planned, and the order was later split into two seasons after Marvel overhauled the series in 2023. Showrunner Dario Scardapane and directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were confirmed to return in February 2025, when Scardapane said the second season would have eight episodes, and writers Heather Bellson, Jesse Wigutow and Devon Kliger also returned. Wigutow said this season had a “singular vision,” where the first had at times felt “jigsawed together.”

Principal photography ran from 28 February to 9 July 2025 under the working title Out the Kitchen 2, with soundstage work at Silvercup Studios East in Queens and location shooting across New York, including four nights at City Hall. The Newton Brothers returned to compose the score.

OLD ALLIES AND A NEW TASK FORCE

WHO IS IN THE CAST

The cast includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blake, Wilson Bethel as Dex Poindexter, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Lili Taylor as Governor Marge McCaffrey and Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Mike Colter returns briefly as Luke Cage in the finale.

Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle does not appear because of the actor’s commitments to The Punisher: One Last Kill and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though the new task force uniform uses the Punisher’s skull as its logo.

EIGHT EPISODES AND A SMALLER AUDIENCE

HOW THE SEASON WAS RECEIVED

The eight episodes ran from “The Northern Star” on 24 March 2026 to “The Southern Cross” on 5 May 2026, with episodes 2 and 3 both released on 31 March and runtimes from 48 to 54 minutes. Luminate recorded 4.5 million US views over the first five weeks, about 46% fewer than the first season managed over the same period.

Rotten Tomatoes lists an 87% critics’ score from 135 reviews and an 85% audience score, and its consensus credits “devilishly good performances, punchier narrative momentum, and well-timed themes.” Metacritic gives it 73 from 16 critics and a user score of 7.0. Critics praised the season as “an improvement over the first,” and Casey Loving of TheWrap said the continuous-shot fight in episode 3 “harkens back to the hallway fights of old.”

THE REWATCH

A SEASON SET ALONGSIDE THE PUNISHER
