MARVEL MARATHON DEEP DIVE
UNTITLED
X-MEN FILM
Marvel Studios’ first X-Men film for the MCU is scheduled to reach US cinemas on 5 May 2028, with Jake Schreier directing. Kevin Feige has said it will introduce a recast X-Men team after the reset of Avengers: Secret Wars.
MUTANTS IN THE MCU
HOW THE FILM CAME TOGETHER
Kevin Feige said in July 2019, after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, that mutants would be introduced to the MCU and would differ from Fox’s X-Men films. He later called Deadpool & Wolverine “the true start” of using the Fox characters, and the next MCU saga is expected to centre on characters Marvel inherited in the acquisition, including the X-Men.
Michael Lesslie entered negotiations to write a new X-Men film in May 2024 and was confirmed a year later, and Jake Schreier was announced as director after the positive response to Thunderbolts*. Schreier revealed in April 2026 that Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin were writing a new draft.
“a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.”
