HOW THE THIRD SEASON REACHED HULU
Hulu renewed the series for a ten-episode third season on 24 March 2019. On 18 November 2019 it was reported that the series would end with the third season, with the story said to come to a natural ending point. All ten episodes were released on 13 December 2019.
TWO MARVEL SHOWS MEET
HOW THE CLOAK & DAGGER CROSSOVER HAPPENED
The season is a crossover with Cloak & Dagger, with Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson. Schwartz said on 13 December 2019 that the idea went back to the start of the show:
“It was actually something that we had wanted to do from the beginning.”
Josh Schwartz, 13 December 2019
He added that the two comics are “so tied together.” Freeform had cancelled Cloak & Dagger by then, so the appearance came as Runaways entered its own final season.
A SORCERESS AND A DARK DIMENSION
WHAT THE SEASON IS ABOUT
The season’s conflict is with Morgan le Fay and the Dark Dimension, following the first two seasons’ arc of Jonah and the Pride. Schwartz said on 3 October 2019 that “this season is the biggest season we’ve done with the show.”

THE REWATCH
AN 83% CRITICS SCORE AND A LOW AUDIENCE SCORE
Rotten Tomatoes lists an 83% critics’ score from 12 reviews and a 34% audience score from more than 250 ratings, and its consensus calls the season an “exciting–and surprisingly introspective–high note.” Metacritic has not given the season a Metascore.
In the Marvel Marathon it is catalogued as Marvel Television and sits in the Marvel TV shows in order guide between The Daily Bugle Season 1 and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7. It is not in the MCU timeline guide or the MCU release-order and series guides.
QUICK ANSWERS
RUNAWAYS SEASON 3 WATCH QUESTIONS
Do I need to watch the first two seasons?
Yes. Season 3 follows directly from the second season’s ending and the teenagers’ fight against the Pride and Jonah, so watch the earlier seasons first.
Is Season 3 the last season?
Yes. It was reported on 18 November 2019 that the third season would be the last.
Do I need to watch Cloak & Dagger before the crossover?
It helps. Tandy and Tyrone arrive as established characters from that show, which Freeform had cancelled after its second season.
Which Marvel Marathon guides include Runaways Season 3?
It appears in the Marvel TV shows in order guide, between The Daily Bugle Season 1 and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7. Its catalogue entry is classed as Marvel Television rather than MCU, so it is not in the MCU release-order, series, movie or timeline guides.
