MARVEL MARATHON DEEP DIVE
GHOST RIDER
Ghost Rider is scheduled to reach US cinemas on 28 July 2028, with Shawn Levy directing Ryan Gosling. It is the first Ghost Rider film from Marvel Studios, following the two Sony films that starred Nicolas Cage.
THE RIGHTS COME HOME
HOW THE FILM CAME TOGETHER
Marvel Studios regained the film rights to Ghost Rider from Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures in May 2013. Those companies had made Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011), both with Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze.
Ryan Gosling publicly expressed interest in playing the character in 2022, and Kevin Feige suggested he was open to it. Gosling was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026 to star in a new film directed by Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper. Levy directed Deadpool & Wolverine for Marvel Studios and worked with Gosling and Tropper on Star Wars: Starfighter.
